At 32, Jonathan Lee Durrell has had quite a rollercoaster of a life. Born in Liverpool, England to a firefighter and a nurse, Jonathan grew up the ideal Christian. Obedient, respectful and rather shy, he never had many friends growing up, having preferred to concentrate on his studies. It was his mother who encouraged him to attend university, and to obtain his medical degree. Sadly, she died shortly before his eighteenth birthday, after battling breast cancer.
It was at university where he discovered his... curiosity for the men, so to speak. Still a strict Christian, caught up with the church's beliefs, he never let himself get too close. One boy, a roommate on campus, caught onto how Jonathan felt about him and tried to push it beyond a few fumbles and a quick snog in the dark. That was when he overreacted and punched the boy out. He transferred to another dorm the next day.
Upon graduation from the University of Liverpool with his Bachelor of Medicine (and virginity in tact), Jonathan had high expectations, hoping to open up his own practice. However, that was costly. And he had never worked a day in his life, having gone straight from high school to university with assistance from his father and life savings. So he was left desperately trying to seek out work. Landing a position at a nearby GP surgery, he soon found himself bored of the same environment and routine. The lack of friends didn't really help, unless his weird next door neighbor counted (and goodness, was she ever the weirdo - she even proposed once, and wasn't that awkward for Jonathan?), or that one bloke he occasionally snogged at the bar whenever he'd had a few too many pints to drink.
So, after about two years, he packed his bags, bid farewell to his father and hopped on a plane to California to become a movie star. Except not really, he actually couldn't act to save his life. And old women at his church warned him about the harlots and hussies. Instead, he found himself applying for a work visa, and three months on, even finding a new job at a clinic. Sure, it was about an hour away from where he lived, but a job was a job to Jonathan. What he didn't expect to find, however, was a budding, almost romance in the form of a man whom he met in church one uneventful Sunday morning.
Different to his drunken making out and brief university terror, Jonathan now finds himself struggling to awkwardly romance a man over Sunday brunches, attempting to make enough money to open his own practice and make ends meet, stop drinking and smoking (no one said he was a great role model doctor) and maybe eventually adopt that cat that constantly follows him whenever he goes outside. Oh, and not get deported in between all this.
Three months in America already, things couldn't get more surreal. Or could they? |

OOC CONTACT; homocentric |
[Apr. 18th, 2010|08:24 pm] |
Scene requests; OOC; Thread or AIM;
valensuela: the new love interest. Having met in church, Jonathan is still uneasy over the prospect of being with a man, but it hasn't stopped him in the past, nor has it stopped him pursuing men. Who knows, maybe he'll stick around this man, this time.
[insert name here]: the tennis partner. Could have met at work, could have met in the gym - they have a friendly, slightly competitive partnership going on.
[insert name here]: the work mate. Maybe shares his own dreams of opening a clinic, a prospective work partner, perhaps?
_henley: the next door neighbor. The day Jonathan moved in, the nice neighbor assisted him with moving. In turn, he invited him over for drinks and dinner. And maybe spiked the tea because he was already nervous and awkward about meeting new people. It's a slow friendship in the making, but Henley lets him borrow Selena the ragdoll, and in turn, he cooks him (and his roommate) dinner sometimes.
Any other prospective lines are also welcomed! |
